Oxford University Press – mobile testing
Epicentre and OUP have enjoyed a strong mutual relationship for many years, Epicentre having performed extensive compatibility and functionality testing on scores of different products during this time. In recent years OUP has begun producing increasing numbers of mobile apps for smartphones.
OUP’s mobile apps include titles such as the Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary and Oxford Advanced American Dictionary apps, and the Solutions series (which includes variants targeted at regions all over the world). At the outset of the project OUP had limited experience of mobile development and testing, and also relatively few smartphone handsets in-house. Epicentre utilised its broad experience with mobile testing to fulfil all testing needs. This included the use of Epicentre’s extensive range of iOS and Android handsets, Epicentre’s bespoke mobile environment behavioural test script, and the collective pool of experience with mobile apps and testing shared by our test team.
For some high-profile mobile projects, an additional test plan was built, focusing upon functionalities unique to particular apps. For larger scale projects, test types were allocated across a series rather than on each app to introduce efficiencies and assist OUP in meeting their development and release schedule. Testing on all apps was completed on time and within budget, and for each app Epicentre supplied detailed bugs reports covering a diverse range of issue types to OUP. Where appropriate, Epicentre also offered suggestions and queries relating to mobile usability that could be considered for future projects. Of the apps released to the market to date, several are regional top-sellers for OUP and their mobile development continues to build.
